Mayes County Fair is an enriching experience for youth in agriculture to show off the projects they work tirelessly on all summer. These projects usually include cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, and poultry. At the Mayes County Fair, everyone who raises these projects gathers for a week of fun and hard work to display what they have learned and devoted their time to. Everyone who raises show projects gain lots of enriching knowledge and skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. Teamwork is a major aspect of showing livestock. Youth must be able to work with their ag teachers, parents, peers, and those around them to grow and display their livestock. Another skill they practice is calm communication with people who are unfamiliar with the livestock industry and can often ask some tough questions. Overall, the lessons learned and skills gained from raising show stock are valuable in all aspects of life. The amount of work and dedication put into this sport does not come easy.
Some of the highlights include Ashlynn Vargas winning Reserve Grand Steer with her Maine-Anjou. Neveah Chupp won breed champion dairy with her Guernsey. Kelsey Penderson won Breed Champion Suffolk Lamb. Madalyn Spurlock won Breed Champion Dorset Lamb. Rylie Dorsey won Reserve Breed Crossbred Steer. Ryan Moore won first place in the tractor driving contest and Kale Melugin came in second. There were many more high placings for exhibitors this year and we want to congratulate all of them for a job well done!
