Pryor Innovation Center Hosts Area Wide STEM Day

A little rain didn’t slow down the Pryor Innovation Center Aviation STEM Day. School buses were lined up in the parking lot of the Pryor Expo Center Thursday, March 9, where hundreds of high school students interested in aviation and other cutting-edge technology were able to investigate STEM career paths through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and contests.

A United Airlines pilot spoke to the group, and students had a chance to talk with representatives from colleges and companies:

  • FAA
  • GRDA
  • Spartan
  • RSU
  • Southeastern Oklahoma State University
  • Tango Flight
  • Mid America
  • Aviate
  • OSU
  • Tulsa Life Flight
  • Oklahoma Air National Guard

The interactive experience included flying an aircraft via a simulator, piloting drones, hot air balloon races and more. The tail and wing structures of a plane being built by the Pryor High School Flying Tigers were also on display.

PHS has partnered with Tango Flight to provide aviation students with the hands-on experience of constructing a small aircraft.  Students in this program are learning physics and engineering through the aerospace project.

Aviation professionals are in demand in the Oklahoma and national workforce, and events like PHS Aviation STEM Day are geared to help Oklahoma students discover career options in the field.

Teachers will be available for conferences Tuesday, March 7, and Thursday, March 9, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Parents will have access to chromebooks and labs during teacher parent conferences to complete the pre-enrollment process.

Please Note: Once forms have been completed, students/parents must hit the “submit button” at the bottom of the page for the contracts to be forwarded to the district for approval; otherwise, the contracts will show as incomplete.
