Roosevelt Tigers recently had the opportunity to learn more about STEM career opportunities available right here in our area.

STEM teacher Delia Gietzen invited local professionals to visit with her students and share how science, technology, engineering, and math are used in their everyday work. Throughout the event, students heard from leaders in a variety of career fields connected to weather, wildlife, conservation, public power, parks, and design.

Meteorologist Emma Landeros spoke with students about weather conditions and the importance of being prepared for severe weather. Biologist Bobby Gragg explained how monitoring wildlife helps protect and support local ecology. Tabitha Nixon shared the duties and responsibilities of park rangers, giving students a closer look at careers connected to public lands and outdoor education.

Students also heard from GRDA biologist Dustin Browning, who discussed the lakes and land maintained by Oklahoma’s largest public power electric utility. Architect Devin Weddle shared insight into the field of design and architecture, with the highlight of his presentation being the recognition of the first-place winners in the Tinkercad Design Contest.

The presentations helped students connect classroom learning to real-world careers and see how STEM skills are used by professionals in their own community.
