Perfect weather, perfect start and a historic night was what new Tiger Stadium delivered on Friday night. The Tigers welcomed the Sallisaw Black Diamonds to town and the opening kickoff delivered a play not many are going to forget for a long time.
Tyler Belew took the opening kickoff 95 yards to the house and got the packed stadium rocking louder than Rocklahoma. After Sallisaw drove down and scored, the Tigers roared back with an unbelievable catch and run by Jackson Parks, who seemingly ran through the entire Black Diamond defense on his way into the endzone.
The 2nd quarter saw Sallisaw take the lead briefly against the Tigers but after a Karson Hughes touchdown run, the Tigers never looked back. Braden Ward connected with Gavin Roberts for a touchdown just before half to make the score 31-22.
Karson Hughes started the scoring in the 2nd half with a 14-yard touchdown run. The defense held the Black Diamonds scoreless in the 2nd half and Hughes added a third rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Pryor opened Tiger Stadium with a 45-22 victory and capped off a long awaited opening night in their new home. The Tigers will travel to face Catoosa this week before returning home for homecoming on September 12th against Glenpool.
