Olivia Watkins, a 5th grade student at Jefferson Elementary, has made spelling history—claiming 1st Place in the Eastern Oklahoma Spelling Bee, a rare feat for someone her age. Olivia is only the third fifth grader ever to win the top title.
More than 10,000 students competed in this year’s state competition. Olivia advanced through each round, securing her spot in the finals. She stayed in the running by correctly spelling succotash, and fittingly clinched the championship by spelling the word ultimate—a truly ultimate moment!
In recognition of her achievement, Jefferson Elementary received a $1,000 prize, and Olivia was awarded $500 in winnings.
This marks the second time a Pryor Tiger has earned top honors at the Eastern Oklahoma Spelling Bee. In 2023, a Pryor student tied for first place, making this year's solo win even more special.
Congratulations to Olivia, her family, and the entire Jefferson Elementary team for this outstanding accomplishment!
