Like young students everywhere, Jefferson Elementary Tigers dream of heroes and imagine who they want to be when they grow up. While superheroes with extraordinary powers often fill those dreams, recently, Jefferson students had the opportunity to meet real-life heroes who serve our community every day.
During Jefferson’s annual Hero Week, first responders arrived—by land and by sky—to give students an up-close look at how they protect and serve. Pryor firefighters brought a firetruck, allowing students to climb aboard, ask questions, and see firsthand how firefighters suit up for emergencies. Mayes Emergency Ambulance Services visited campus, giving students the chance to explore the inside of an ambulance and learn about the vital role paramedics play in saving lives.
One of the most exciting moments of the week was when the Air Evac Life Team landed their medical helicopter on the playground. Students were able to walk up to the aircraft, meet the flight crew, and learn about their lifesaving missions.
Pryor Police officers also made a special visit, bringing their K-9 unit to the classrooms. Students met the police dogs and learned how they help keep the community safe.
Hero Week is more than just an exciting event—it’s an opportunity for students to connect with the everyday heroes who work tirelessly to keep Pryor safe and thriving. It broadens their understanding of what it means to be a hero, showing them that heroes aren’t just found in comic books but in the familiar faces of those who serve our community every day.
