kindergarten students holding snake skin

Kindergarten students in Jessica Shrum's class at Jefferson Elementary had an exciting visit from Pryor High School biology teacher Jodee Pate and her slithery friend—her pet snake!

Since Shrum's K5 students had been learning about snakes, bringing in a live snake enriched the lesson and gave students a hands-on opportunity to see what they’d been studying come to life. Mrs. Pate shared fun facts about snakes and gave students an up-close look at her reptile. In addition to meeting the live snake, students also got to see and touch a real snake skin, learning how snakes shed as they grow.

Jefferson Elementary principal Mr. Beattie joined in with the class to learn more about snake behaviors and habitats.

It was a memorable experience that combined curiosity, science, and just the right amount of bravery. Ms. Shrum's students loved the surprise and were eager to share what they learned with their families.

Thank you to Mrs. Pate for bringing science to life and giving these future scientists a hands-on learning moment they won’t soon forget!
