This past weekend, Pryor Tiger Softball took the Class 5A State Fastpitch Softball Tournament by storm in Oklahoma City.
In the first round, they faced off against the Carl Albert Titans. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They moved on to the semi-finals with a 5-2 victory.
In the semi-finals, the Tigers had to come from behind to win. After the Tigers tied it up in the bottom of the 6th, neither team scored in the 7th. The game headed to extra innings with Pryor holding Duncan scoreless in the top of the 8th. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th, Tayla Vance hit a walk-off single to send Pryor to the championship game.
In the Championship, the Tigers scored one run in the first, five in the second and one in the third. Piedmont, the three-time defending state champs, scored four in the fourth but that would be all they could plate against starting pitcher, Coda Taylor.
The Pryor Tigers, coached by Chell Looney, secured their third fastpitch state championship in school history with a 7-4 victory.
Pryor High School will celebrate the State Championship Team with an assembly on Monday, October 28, 2024.
