Oklahoma, the ancestral home of many Indigenous tribes, has the second-highest Native American population in the United States, following Alaska and just ahead of New Mexico. The state is home to 39 federally recognized tribes, including the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole Nations.
Oklahoma holds deep historical importance, as "it became a central location during the forced relocations of the 19th century, including the infamous Trail of Tears," Newson6
Through this celebration, the Native American Club aims to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous history and traditions which are integral to Oklahoma's cultural fabric.
