This month, Pryor Middle School's 6th-grade students had a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United States Constitution and the importance of active citizenship. Students from Ms. Pritchett and Ms. Dobrinski’s classes gathered in the school library, where a guest speaker from the organization Constituting America brought the foundational document to life.
During the presentation, the speaker highlighted the connection between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, utilizing references to popular movies and songs to make the content engaging and relatable. By drawing on elements of current culture, the presenter helped students appreciate the ongoing relevance of the Constitution and its impact on their everyday lives.
Constituting America also sponsors the “We The Future” Scholarship Contest, which invites students to use their creativity to celebrate the Constitution for a chance to win academic scholarships and an all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital. This special trip offers exclusive access to historic locations in Washington, D.C. The contest includes categories for various types of media, from public service announcements to lesson plans, giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents and perspectives in multiple formats.
By engaging students in these types of presentations, Pryor Middle School hopes to give students a sense of civic responsibility.
