Pryor School teachers were given an inspirational start to the 2024-2025 school year with a keynote address by Muriel Summers, the Leader in Me Global Ambassador and retired principal of the original Leader in Me school. Summers, who co-authored the book Leader in Me, emphasized educators' far-reaching influence on their students' lives. "You never know how far your influence goes in the world," she reminded the assembled staff, encouraging them to approach the new school year with renewed purpose and passion.
The event, held at the AVRA Performing Arts Center, was filled with moments of celebration and reflection. As teachers arrived, they were greeted by high school cheerleaders lining the entrance with blue and gold poms, and cheering on the staff enthusiastically. The warm welcome set a festive tone for the day.
After sign-ins, quick visits, and picking up a welcome bag courtesy of TTCU, teachers entered the auditorium to the sounds of the Pride of Pryor Band. The PHS Cheer Squad soon had everyone on their feet enjoying the school spirit, and the high school choir serenaded the staff with a heartfelt rendition of "I Write the Songs that Make the Whole World Sing." Staff and students celebrated the beginning of a new year of possibilities.
Pryor School Board President Fred Sordahl addressed the staff, offering encouragement and appreciation. "We live in a world of distractions," Sordahl acknowledged, "but it doesn't keep us from doing what we need to do. . . None of this happens without you. Thank you for the difference you make in the world. The world is a better place because of you." His message resonated with the audience, highlighting the critical role that educators play in shaping the future.
Following Sordahl's remarks, Dr. Muller provided updates on the district's goals and delivered encouraging news of the district's academic gains. Muller's report reassured teachers that their efforts were making a measurable difference.
The event concluded with a special appearance by Pryor High School alumna Emma Landeros, now a meteorologist with 2 News Oklahoma. Landeros shared her personal story, expressing how the support and encouragement she received from her teachers in Pryor were instrumental in helping her pursue her dreams.
It was an inspiring meeting for teachers who left the meeting ready to start a new year.
